Proposed, built and managed by the IAC in international collaboration with the Royal Greenwich Observatory (RGO) and Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING), the project aim was to develop a two-dimensional fibre optic spectroscopy system for the "William Herschel" telescope at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos. The new system, which has been available to the international scientific community since 1998, can carry out spectroscopy across 200 vast regions of astronomical objects simultaneously.
