Discovery of a nitrogen-enhanced mildly metal-poor binary system: Possible evidence for pollution from an extinct AGB starWe report the serendipitous discovery of a nitrogen-rich, mildly metal-poor ([Fe/H] = -1.08) giant star in a single-lined spectroscopic binary system found in the SDSS-IV Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment (APOGEE-2) survey, Data Release 14 (DR14). Previous work has assumed that two percent of halo giants with unusual elementalFernández-Trincado, José G. et al.

Detection of the PSR J1741+1351 white dwarf companion with the Gran Telescopio CanariasWe report detection of the binary companion to the millisecond pulsar J1741+1351 with the Gran Telescopio Canarias. The optical source position coincides with the pulsar coordinates and its magnitudes are g′ = 24.84(5), r′ = 24.38(4) and i′ = 24.17(4). Comparison of the data with the WD evolutionary models shows that the source can be a He-core WDZyuzin, D. A. et al.

Coronal Cooling as a Result of Mixing by the Nonlinear Kelvin-Helmholtz InstabilityRecent observations show cool, oscillating prominence threads fading when observed in cool spectral lines and appearing in warm spectral lines. A proposed mechanism to explain the observed temperature evolution is that the threads were heated by turbulence driven by the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability that developed as a result of wave-driven shearHillier, Andrew et al.

Atmospheric scintillation noise in ground-based exoplanet photometryAtmospheric scintillation caused by optical turbulence in the Earth's atmosphere can be the dominant source of noise in ground-based photometric observations of bright targets, which is a particular concern for ground-based exoplanet transit photometry. We demonstrate the implications of atmospheric scintillation for exoplanet transit photometryFöhring, D. et al.
