  • Calibrating the metallicity of M dwarfs in wide physical binaries with F-, G-, and K-primaries - I: High-resolution spectroscopy with HERMES: stellar parameters, abundances, and kinematics
We investigated almost 500 stars distributed among 193 binary or multiple systems made of late-F, G-, or early-K-primaries and late-K- or M-dwarf companion candidates. For all of them, we compiled or measured coordinates, J-band magnitudes, spectral types, distances, and proper motions. With these data, we established a sample of 192 physically

  • Bayesian bulge-disc decomposition of galaxy images
We introduce PHI, a fully Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm designed for the structural decomposition of galaxy images. PHI uses a triple layer approach to effectively and efficiently explore the complex parameter space. Combining this with the use of priors to prevent non-physical models, PHI offers a number of significant advantages for

  • Basaltic asteroids: a howardites - eucrites - diogenites view
We present a compositional classification of 374 V-type asteroids selected from the MOVIS catalogue. The classification was made by comparing the V-types colors with those of a sample of 65 HED(Howardites, Eucrites, Diogenites) meteorites from RELAB database. We found that 51 % of the V-type asteroids can be associated with Eucrites, 29 % with

  • AUTOMATED ALGORITHMS FOR SPECTROSCOPIC CLASSIFICATION OF STARS AND APPLICATIONS TO APOGEE

  • Astronomy in Roman urbanism: a statistical analysis of the orientation of Roman towns in the Iberian Peninsula
The work presented in this article is part of a wide-ranging and ambitious project, started few years ago, to study the role of astronomy in Roman urban layout. In particular, the main aim is to check whether Roman cities present astronomical patterns in their orientations. The project emerged from ideas on how to properly orientate the main
