  • Neutron-capture Elements in Planetary Nebulae: First Detections of Near-infrared [Te III] and [Br V] Emission Lines
We have identified two new near-infrared (NIR) emission lines in the spectra of planetary nebulae arising from heavy elements produced by neutron-capture reactions: [Te III] 2.1019 μm and [Br V] 1.6429 μm. [Te III] was detected in both NGC 7027 and IC 418, while [Br V] was seen in NGC 7027. The observations were obtained with the medium-resolution

  • Multimessenger observations of a flaring blazar coincident with high-energy neutrino IceCube-170922A
Previous detections of individual astrophysical sources of neutrinos are limited to the Sun and the supernova 1987A, whereas the origins of the diffuse flux of high-energy cosmic neutrinos remain unidentified. On 22 September 2017, we detected a high-energy neutrino, IceCube-170922A, with an energy of ~290 tera-electron volts. Its arrival direction

  • MHDSTS: a new explicit numerical scheme for simulations of partially ionised solar plasma
The interaction of plasma with magnetic field in the partially ionised solar atmosphere is frequently modelled via a single-fluid approximation, which is valid for the case of a strongly coupled collisional media, such as solar photosphere and low chromosphere. Under the single-fluid formalism the main non-ideal effects are described by a series of

  • Merging light beams from the 4 VLT telescopes
ESPRESSO is a fiber feed ultrastable High Resolution Spectrograph designed to work in the Combined-Coudé focus of Very Large Telescopes (VLT). A high resolution (R 100000) and an ultra-high resolution (R 220000) mode will be available to collect the light coming of one VLT telescope. In addition, ESPRESSO has an observing mode which allows to

  • MEGARA, the R=6000-20000 IFU and MOS of GTC
MEGARA is the new generation IFU and MOS optical spectrograph built for the 10.4m Gran Telescopio CANARIAS (GTC). The project was developed by a consortium led by UCM (Spain) that also includes INAOE (Mexico), IAA-CSIC (Spain) and UPM (Spain). The instrument arrived to GTC on March 28th 2017 and was successfully integrated and commissioned at the
