  • Design of the observation queue scheduler for WEAVE on the WHT
The Observation Queue Scheduler (OQS) for WEAVE is described in this paper, with particular emphasis on the scheduling algorithm. WEAVE is the new 2-deg field of view multi-object (1000 multiplex) spectroscopy facility (R5000 and R20000) at the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope. The OQS helps to maximize the scientific impact of WEAVE observations

  • Deciphering the Activity and Quiescence of High-redshift Cluster Environments: ALMA Observations of Cl J1449+0856 at z = 2
We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array observations of the 870 μm continuum and CO(4-3) line emission in the core of the galaxy cluster Cl J1449+0856 at z = 2, a near-IR-selected, X-ray-detected system in the mass range of typical progenitors of today’s massive clusters. The 870 μm map reveals six F 870μm > 0.5 mJy sources spread

  • Construction progress of WEAVE: the next generation wide-field spectroscopy facility for the William Herschel Telescope
We present an update on the overall construction progress of the WEAVE next-generation spectroscopy facility for the William Herschel Telescope (WHT), now that all the major fabrication contracts are in place. We also present a summary of the current planning behind the 5-year initial phase of survey operations, and some detailed end-to-end science

  • Commissioning tests of an Integral Field Unit (IFU) at GREGOR solar telescope
We present the commissioning of an IFU based on image-slicers and a 2D-Field-of-View Scanning System (FoV-SS) for the GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS). The prototype of the image-slicer has eight slices of 1.8 mm x 0.1 mm in Zerodur, covering an area of 20 arcsec2. The FoV-SS, equipped with three Degrees of Freedom (DoF), allows to scan a region

  • Closed loop operation with extremely elongated LGS spots in CANARY Phase D
CANARY is a wide-field AO on-sky test facility which has been operated annually on the 4.2m William Herschel Telescope since 2010. CANARY has the stated goal of testing and demonstrating AO technologies that are critical for ELT AO performance. It has seen four distinct phases where new AO technologies have been developed and demonstrated

  • Characterization of a candidate dual AGN
We present Chandra and optical observations of a candidate dual active galactic nucleus (AGN) discovered serendipitously while searching for recoiling black holes via a cross-correlation between the serendipitous XMM source catalogue (2XMMi) and SDSS-DR7 galaxies with a separation no larger than 10 times the sum of their Petrosian radii.
