  • Ruling out the Orbital Decay of the WASP-43b Exoplanet
We present 15 new transit observations of the exoplanet WASP-43b in the i‧, g‧, and R filters with the 1.0 m telescopes of Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network and the IAC80 telescope. We combine our 15 new light curves with 52 others from the literature, to homogeneously analyze all the available transit light curves of this exoplanet

  • Rotating Stars and the Formation of Bipolar Planetary Nebulae. II. Tidal Spin-up
We present new binary stellar evolution models that include the effects of tidal forces, rotation, and magnetic torques with the goal of testing planetary nebulae (PNs) shaping via binary interaction. We explore whether tidal interaction with a companion can spin-up the asymptotic giant brach (AGB) envelope. To do so, we have selected binary

  • Roche tomography of cataclysmic variables - VII. The long-term magnetic activity of AE Aqr
We present a long-term study of the secondary star in the cataclysmic variable AE Aqr, using Roche tomography to indirectly image starspots on the stellar surface spanning 8 years of observations. The seven maps show an abundance of spot features at both high and low latitudes. We find that all maps have at least one large high-latitude spot region

  • Regulation of black-hole accretion by a disk wind during a violent outburst of V404 Cygni
Accretion of matter onto black holes is universally associated with strong radiative feedback and powerful outflows. In particular, black-hole transients have outflows whose properties are strongly coupled to those of the accretion flow. This includes X-ray winds of ionized material, expelled from the accretion disk encircling the black hole, and

  • Radial Motions in Disk Stars: Ellipticity or Secular Flows?
Average stellar orbits of the Galactic disk may have some small intrinsic ellipticity which breaks the exact axisymmetry and there may also be some migration of stars inwards or outwards. Both phenomena can be detected through kinematic analyses. We use the red clump stars selected spectroscopically from the APO Galactic Evolution Experiment, with

  • Pulsating Hot Subdwarfs in Omega Centauri
We recently discovered the first globular cluster hot subdwarf pulsators in Omega Centauri (ω Cen). These stars were initially thought to belong to the class of rapidly pulsating subdwarf B stars, which are well established among the field star population and have become showcases for asteroseismology. However, our spectroscopic analysis revealed
