  • The rates and modes of gas accretion on to galaxies and their gaseous haloes
We study the rate at which gas accretes on to galaxies and haloes and investigate whether the accreted gas was shocked to high temperatures before reaching a galaxy. For this purpose, we use a suite of large cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations from the OverWhelmingly Large Simulations project, which uses a modified version of the smoothed

  • The properties of the T8.5p dwarf Ross 458C
We present near-infrared photometry and spectroscopy, and warm-Spitzer IRAC photometry of the young very cool T dwarf Ross 458C, which we have typed as T8.5p. By applying the fiducial age constraints (≤1 Gyr) imposed by the properties of the active M dwarf Ross 458A, we have used these data to determine that Ross 458C has Teff= 695 ± 60 K, log g= 4

  • The Oxygen versus Sodium (Anti)Correlation(S) in ω Cen
Recent examination of large samples of ω Cen giants shows that, as in mono-metallic globular clusters, sodium versus oxygen anticorrelation is present within each subset of stars with iron content in the range -1.9

  • The morphologies and masses of extremely red galaxies in the Groth Strip
We present a new catalogue of EROs from the Groth Strip and study the relation between their morphology and mass. With a selection criterion F814W-Ks≥ 4 and Ks≤ 21.0 we find 102 EROs, over a survey area of 155 arcmin2, leading to a surface density of 0.66 arcmin-2. The photometric data include U, B, F606W, F814W, J, Ks bands. Morphologies are based

  • The LCID Project: Star Formation History of Isolated, Local Group Dwarf Galaxies
We present detailed star formation and chemical enrichment histories obtained for six isolated Local Group galaxies in the context of the LCID (Local Cosmology from Isolated Dwarfs) project. One of the main goals of the LCID project was to investigate the influence of global processes (like cosmic reionization) or internal mechanisms (such as SNe
