  • Magnetic Bright Points in the Quiet Sun
We present a visual determination of the number of bright points (BPs) existing in the quiet Sun, which are structures though to trace intense kG magnetic concentrations. The measurement is based on a 0farcs1 angular resolution G-band movie obtained with the Swedish Solar Telescope at the solar disk center. We find 0.97 BPs Mm-2, which is a factor

  • Infrared Imaging And SEDs With Spitzer Of Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies At z<1
We present new infrared images and photometry with Spitzer/IRAC + MIPS of over 20 luminous compact blue galaxies (LCBGs), half at z 0 and half at z 0.75. LCBGs are extreme starburst galaxies with strong evolution, providing up to 40% of the observed increase in global star formation rate density between z=0 and z=1. They are important to study as

  • Impact of internal bremsstrahlung on the detection of γ rays from neutralinos
We present a detailed study of the effect of internal bremsstrahlung photons in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard models and their impact on γ-ray dark matter annihilation searches. We find that, although this effect has to be included for the correct evaluation of fluxes of high energy photons from neutralino annihilation, its

  • Formation of a multi-thread prominence
Solar prominences are composed of many threads of cool and dense plasma suspended in the million-degree solar corona. We have constructed a 3D time-dependent model of a prominence from 1D independent simulations of many flux tubes. The 3D magnetic field is taken from an adaptive MHD simulation of a sheared double-arcade filament channel. We will

  • First Detection of Water Ice and Organics on an Asteroid: A Possible Link to the Origin of Earth's Water
We report the detection of water ice and organics on the surface of asteroid 24 Themis. Our rotationally-resolved infrared (2-4 µm) spectra of this asteroid indicate that the ice and organics are widespread on its surface. The spectral difference with other asteroids observed in the same manner, makes 24 Themis unique so far. Our identification of

  • Fast infrared variability from a relativistic jet in GX 339-4
We present the discovery of fast infrared/X-ray correlated variability in the black hole transient GX 339-4. The source was observed with subsecond time resolution simultaneously with Very Large Telescope/Infrared Spectrometer And Array Camera and Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer/Proportional Counter Array in 2008 August, during its persistent low-flux
