  • Eclipse of the B3V companion and flaring of emission lines in V838 Monocerotis
After four years during which only the spectacular light echo was showing continuous and rapid evolution while the central star was nearly constant, in autumn 2006 V838 Mon began a sequence of events which profoundly altered its spectroscopic and photometric behavior: (a) an eclipse of the B3V companion, characterized by the disappearance and

  • Discovery of a galactic wind in the central region of M100
We report the discovery of a galactic wind in the central region of the galaxy M100. This result is based on a careful 2D spectroscopic study performed on observations made with the fibre system INTEGRAL on the William Herschel Telescope. The primary evidence of the wind is the presence of blueshifted interstellar NaD absorption lines. The velocity

  • Constraints on the Steady and Pulsed Very High Energy Gamma-Ray Emission from Observations of PSR B1951+32/CTB 80 with the MAGIC Telescope
We report on very high energy γ-ray observations with the MAGIC Telescope of the pulsar PSR B1951+32 and its associated nebula, CTB 80. Our data constrain the cutoff energy of the pulsar to be less than 32 GeV, assuming the pulsed γ-ray emission to be exponentially cut off. In the case that the cutoff follows a superexponential behavior, the cutoff

  • Circumstellar Envelopes as AGB Mass-Loss Signatures
Low- and intermediate-mass stars (1--8 M&sun;) lose up to 80 % of their initial mass during the Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) phase. Heavy mass loss is the signature of the late AGB phase: at uncertain rates of 10-6 to 10-3 M&sun; yr-1, on timescales of ˜ 10^5--10^6 yr, it removes up to 7 M&sun; of stellar material. We have investigated the
