  • Visible and near-infrared spectroscopic survey of Jupiter Trojan asteroids: investigation of dynamical families
Trojan asteroids located in the Jupiter Lagrangian points L4 and L5 (60 degrees ahead and behind Jupiter) are widely believed to be primordial bodies since their orbits are stable over the age of the Solar System. They seem to have been formed in a region of the solar nebula rich in frozen volatiles and to have never suffered selective induction

  • Two magnetic components in sunspot penumbrae
The magnetic and kinematic configuration of sunspot penumbrae is investigated by performing an inversion of the Stokes profiles of three infrared lines at 1565 nm. We use a two-component model atmosphere to describe, at least to first order, the unresolved structure of the penumbra. The observed Stokes profiles are successfully fitted, including

  • Tracing the coronal emission in Circinus with VLT/NACO
In this short letter we present our new work on the coronal emission in a sample of AGN. We used the adaptive optics system NACO on the VLT to obtain high angular resolution images (˜0.15') of the coronal emission in the vicinity of the central engine.

  • The role of the tropopause layer altitude on the infrared quality of astronomical sites
The infrared sky quality is an important parameter to take into account for the evaluation of astronomical sites. The traditional idea of considering higher altitude sites as better for infrared astronomical observations than sites at lower altitudes is not in agreement with observational data. It has been shown that the observational infrared

  • The photometric properties of isolated early-type galaxies
Isolated galaxies are important because they probe the lowest density regimes inhabited by galaxies. We define a sample of 36 nearby isolated early-type galaxies for further study. Our isolation criteria require them to have no comparable-mass neighbours within 2 B-band magnitudes, 0.67 Mpc in the plane of the sky and 700 km s-1 in recession
