  • How does breakup influence near-barrier fusion of weakly bound light nuclei ?
The influence on the fusion process of coupling to collective degrees of freedom has been explored. The significant enhancement of he fusion cross setion at sub-barrier energies was understood in terms of the dynamical processes arising from strong couplings to collective inelastic excitations of the target and projectile. However, in the case of

  • Extreme galactic wind and star formation at low and high redshift
From a long-term study of IR mergers/QSOs (at low redshift), we report detailed spectroscopic evidences for outflow (OF)and starburst features. We found extreme velocity OF (EVOF) in IRAS 01003-2238, 11119+3257, 13218+0552, 14394+5332, 15130-1958 and 15462-0450. The EVOF were detected mainly in objects with strong starburst plus obscured IR QSOs

  • Extended coronal emission lines in active galactic nuclei
VLT and NTT spectra are used to examine the nuclear and extended coronal line emission in a sample of well-known Seyfert 1 and 2 galaxies. The excellent spatial resolution obtained with VLT allowed us to map [Si VI] 1.963μm and [Si VII] 2.48μm on scales of up to 20 pc. Coronal line emission, extended to distances of ˜102 pc, is detected in some of

  • Emission Line Region in a sample of 12 active galactic nuclei
We present a study of the emission line profiles of a sample of 12 single-peaked Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs- Sy 1 and QSOs). The narrow [OIII] lines seem to be related to two components; NLR1, which has dispersion velocities from 200 to 500 km s-1 and is blueshifted with respect to the systemic by about 20 to 350 km s-1; and NLR2, with smaller

  • Emergence of magnetic flux from the convection zone into the corona
Numerical experiments of the emergence of magnetic flux from the uppermost layers of the solar interior to the photosphere and its further eruption into the low atmosphere and corona are carried out. We use idealized models for the initial stratification and magnetic field distribution below the photosphere similar to those used for

  • Dynamical Masses of the Binary Brown Dwarf GJ 569 Bab
We have obtained new images and high-resolution (R~22,400) near-infrared (1.2400-1.2575 μm) spectra of each component of the brown dwarf binary GJ 569 Bab using the adaptive optics facility of the Keck II telescope and the NIRSPEC spectrometer. These data have allowed us to improve the determination of the astrometric orbit and to measure radial
