  • Chaotic scalar fields as models for dark energy
We consider stochastically quantized self-interacting scalar fields as suitable models to generate dark energy in the Universe. Second quantization effects lead to new and unexpected phenomena if the self-interaction strength is strong. The stochastically quantized dynamics can degenerate to a chaotic dynamics conjugated to a Bernoulli shift in

  • Burst-only sources: probing type I X-ray bursters at low persistent luminosities
The Wide Field Cameras onboard BeppoSAX observed 9 type I X-ray bursters without detectable persistent emission around the burst. According to the standard theory of X-ray bursts these sources should be in the lowest mass-accretion regime, opening the possibility to study this regime for the first time. We compare the sources with the burst theory

  • BeppoSAX-WFCs monitoring of the high-mass X-ray binary 4U 1700-377
During the whole operational lifetime of the BeppoSAX X-ray satellite, the Galactic bulge region was monitored in the 2-28 keV band through dedicated observational campaigns and serendipitous secondary pointings by the Wide Field Cameras. Since the high mass binary 4U 1700-377 was in the field of view whenever a Camera pointed to the Galactic

  • BeppoSAX-WFC monitoring of the Galactic Center region
We review the results obtained with the Galactic center campaigns of the BeppoSAX Wide Field X-ray Cameras (WFCs). This pertains to the study of luminous low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). When pointed at the Galactic center, the WFC field of view contains more than half of the Galactic LMXB population. The results exemplify the excellent WFC

  • 9+ frequencies for V534 Tauri, a δ Scuti variable in the Pleiades. Results of the STEPHI IX campaign
New observations of V534 Tau were performed during the STEPHI IX campaign in November 1998. An overall run of 285 h of data has been collected from three sites over a period of 23 days. Period analysis reveals a rich oscillation spectrum with nine frequencies above the 99% confidence level. This oscillation spectrum spans a large range of
