  • Cosmochemistry
This book contains the lectures delivered at the XIII Canary Islands Winter School of Astrophysics, which reviewed current knowledge about the origin and evolution of the chemical elements in the Universe. Written by seven prestigious astrophysics researchers, it covers cosmological and stellar nucleosynthesis, abundance determinations in stars and

  • CINEMÁTICA DEL GAS IONIZADO EN GALAXIAS ESPIRALES (KINEMATICS OF THE IONIZAD GAS IN SPIRAL GALAXIES)

  • Box- and peanut-shaped bulges. III. A new class of bulges: Thick Boxy Bulges
Inspecting all 1224 edge-on disk galaxies larger than 2arcmin in the RC3 on Digitized Sky Survey (DSS) images (Lütticke et al. cite{lue2000a}) we have found several galaxies with extraordinary bulges meeting two criteria: they are box shaped and large in respect to the diameters of their galaxies. These bulges are often disturbed, show frequently

  • Balloon 090100001: A bright, high amplitude sdB pulsator
We report the discovery of pulsations in the light curve of Balloon 090100001, a bright sdB star (B=11.8) from the balloon-borne survey of Bixler et al. (1991). Our time series observations made with the IAC80 telescope reveal a powerful short period oscillation with a period of 356 s and an amplitude (˜59 mmag) only matched in all of the sdB

  • Analysis of a Very Massive DA White Dwarf via the Trigonometric Parallax and Spectroscopic Methods
By two different methods, we show that LHS 4033 is an extremely massive white dwarf near its likely upper mass limit for destruction by unstable electron captures. From the accurate trigonometric parallax reported herein, the effective temperature (Teff=10,900 K) and the stellar radius (R=0.00368 Rsolar) are directly determined from the broadband
