We describe the first results of a program to extend the Landolt calibration standards to at least V=19 mag and to calibrate fields separated from the celestial equator. This program is one of several coordinated efforts to find faint type AV and KIII stars suitable for the mid-IR calibration of the 10~m Gran Telescopio CANARIAS. We have obtained

We present new observations of Mrk 1087 that indicate this galaxy is experiencing a strong star formation event due to the interaction with -at least- two nearby galaxies, one of them is a star-forming dwarf. We also discover that some of the surrounding non-stellar objects are tidal dwarfs hosting weak starbursts.

Mid-IR images at 8.7 9.7 and 12.5 µm are presented of the star forming region GGD14 associated with the IRAS source 06084-0611. In an area of ˜30arcsec around the IRAS position we have found two mid-IR sources identified with the cometary compact HII region VLA1 and with the faint and unresolved radio continuum source VLA4. A mid-infrared imaging survey at 8.7, 9.7 and 12.5 mu m of a selected number of compact and ultracompact (UC HII) regions has been undertaken with the 2.1m telescope of the OAN at San Pedro Martir, Mexico.
