  • Galactic Astronomy with OTELO
OTELO (OSIRIS Tunable Emission Line Object survey) is a project aimed at studying the low end luminosity function of emission line galaxies. A broad band survey at B ≈ 24 magnitudes detection level will also be performed for a field of view of about 14 square degrees corresponding to the lowest selected redshift (z = 0.08). This huge amount of data

  • Fullerenes and buckyonions in the interestellar medium
The most prominent feature in the interestellar medium extinction curve is the UV bump at 217.5 nm. The carrier of this band has been frequently associated to some form of carbonaceus material but there is no definitive conclusion on the ultimate responsible of the band. The increase in the extinction at higher energies and the existence of many

  • Fluctuations in the Activity Curve of the 2002 Leonids
We present observations of the 2002 Leonid meteor shower taken with four intensified video cameras from Teide Observatory (Tenerife Spain) on November 19 2002. The cameras fitted with f/1.4 85 mm objectives were aimed at 6 deg above the horizon in order to monitor the largest atmospheric volume possible. The most sensitive camera detected 1300

  • Fast bars in early-type barred galaxies
We measured the bar pattern speed of a sample of 6 SB0 galaxies using the Tremaine-Weinberg method. We derived the ratio, {cal R}, of the corotation radius to the length of the bar semi-major axis. For all the galaxies, {cal R} is consistent with being in the range from 1.0 and 1.4, i.e. that they host fast bars. This represents the largest sample

  • Exploitation of CanariCam: Opening new windows for spanish astrophysics
CanariCam is the Day One mid-infrared imager for the Spanish 10 m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). With its multimode options that allow spectroscopy, polarimetry, and coronography, it will be the most advanced and versatile mid-infrared instrument available to astronomers. As such, CanariCam will offer the Spanish scientific community a range of

  • Estudio polarimétrico de cúmulos abiertos en la región de ARA OB1: Hogg 22 y NGC 6204
We present new (UBVRI) multicolor linear polarimetric data for 22 of the brightest stars in the area of the open clusters Hogg 22 and NGC 6204 with the aim of studying the properties of the ISM (interstellar medium) toward these clusters and between them. The new data were incorporated to our data set of previously taken observations (Waldhausen et
