  • An X-ray survey of extragalactic radio jets with Chandra
We are performing a survey of a sample of 17 radio jets with Chandra and HST, with the aim of finding their X-ray and optical counterparts. In this paper, we present the preliminary Chandra results for the first six sources observed and analyzed so far. In four of them an X-ray jet is clearly detected. We compare the X-ray morphologies to the radio

  • A long-wavelength view on galaxy evolution from deep surveys by the Infrared Space Observatory
We discuss the constraints set on galaxy evolution by a variety of data from deep extragalactic surveys performed in the mid-IR and far-IR with the Infrared Space Observatory and with millimetric telescopes at longer wavelengths. These observations indicate extremely high rates of evolution for IR galaxies, exceeding those measured for galaxies at

  • X-ray Transients in M31
A bright X-ray transient in M31 was detected in a 5000-sec Chandra ACIS-I observation on 2001 Aug 31.54 UT. The new transient (CXOU J004305.5+411703) is located at R.A. = 00h43m05s.55, Decl = +41o17'03''.3 (equinox 2000.0; based on the aspect solution, with uncertainty of ~1''). The energy spectrum can be fitted with a power-law model with a photon

  • VLT optical observations of V821 Ara(=GX339-4) in an extended ``off'' state
We report on low-resolution spectroscopy of GX339-4 during its current, extended X-ray ``off'' state in May 2000 (r=20.1) obtained with the VLT Focal Reducer/low dispersion Spectrograph (FORS1). Although we do not positively detect the secondary star in GX339-4 we place an upper limit of 30 percent on the contribution of a ``normal'' K-type

  • Vega-type and PMS stars UBVRI photo-polarimetry (Oudmaijer+ 2001)
This table presents optical UBVRI broadband photo-polarimetry of the EXPORT sample obtained at the 2.5m Nordic Optical Telescope. The database consists of multi-epoch photo-polarimetry of 68 pre-main-sequence and main-sequence stars. (2 data files).

  • The quiescent optical light curve of XTE J2123-058
We present optical photometry of the X-ray transient XTE J2123-058 during its quiescent state taken in 1999 and 2000. We fit the R-band light curves with a model which requires the ellipsoidal modulation and X-ray heating of the Roche-lobe filling secondary star, and an accretion disc bulge, i.e. where the gas stream impacts the accretion disc.
