  • Density Bounded H II Regions: Ionization of the Diffuse Interstellar and Intergalactic Media
We present a study of the diffuse ionized gas (DIG) for a sample of nearby spiral galaxies using Hα images, after constructing their H II region catalogues. The integrated Hα emission of the DIG accounts for between 25% to 60% of the total Hα of the galaxy and a high ionizing photon flux is necessary to keep this gas ionized. We suggest that Lyman

  • Chandra Observations of M31
We present the latest results from the Chandra survey/monitoring program of M31. We will present spectral and timing information on the point sources, including the nuclear source which may be associated with the central supermassive black hole. There are more than 120 point sources (including 18 globular clusters) detected in the central region

  • ChaMPlane: Measuring the Faint X-ray Binary and Stellar X-ray Content of the Galaxy
The Chandra Multiwavelength Plane (ChaMPlane) Survey is a project to identify a large sample of serendipitous X-ray sources located to arcsec precision in deep (≳ 30 ksec) galactic fields (b ~ 10 degree) imaged by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Our primary goal is to identify Cataclysmic Variables (CVs) and quiescent Low Mass X-ray Binaries

  • Bow-shocks and possible jet-shell interaction in the planetary nebula M 2-48
Deep narrow band CCD images in the Hα , [O Iii] lambda5007 Ä, [N Ii] lambda6584 Ä, and [S Ii] lambda6717 +31 Ä emission lines have been obtained for the planetary nebula M 2-48. The discovery of a pair of symmetric low-excitation bow-shocks, separated by 4', and forming a highly collimated bipolar outflow, is presented. The bow-shocks are emitting

  • BeppoSAX observations of the nearby low-mass X-ray binary and fast transient SAX J1819.3-2525
SAX J1819.3-2525 is a nearby X-ray transient which exhibited a fast and large X-ray outburst on Sep. 15, 1999 (Smith et al. 1999). The Wide Field Cameras and the Narrow Field Instruments (NFI) on board BeppoSAX observed SAX J1819.3-2525 at various stages of its activity before that, in the spring and fall of 1999. The fluxes range between 0.012 and
