  • The mid-infrared spectrum of the zodiacal light observed with ISOPHOT
The thermal spectrum of the zodiacal light cannot be observed from the ground. We collected 27 mid-infrared (6-12mu m) spectra obtained by the spectrophotometer ISOPHOT-S on-board the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The observed positions are distributed over the sky region accessible by ISO. The spectrum of the zodiacal light is remarkably well

  • The Kinematics of the HH 399 Jet in the Trifid Nebula
We have studied the kinematics of the HH 399 jet, which was recently discovered in the Trifid Nebula. The data were obtained in the [N II] 6583 Å line with a scanning Fabry-Pérot interferometer (TAURUS-2) and in the [S II] 6717, 6731 Å lines with an echelle spectrograph. The analysis of the radial velocities measured along the jet indicates that

  • The effective temperature scale of giant stars (F0-K5). II. Empirical calibration of Teff versus colours and [Fe/H]
We present calibrations of the effective temperatures of giant stars versus [Fe/H] and colours (U-V), (B-V), (R-I), (V-R), (V-I), (V-K), (J-H), (J-K), (I-K), (V-L'), (b-y) and (u-b). These calibrations are based on a large sample of field and globular cluster stars which roughly cover spectral types from F0 to K5. Their effective temperatures

  • Spectroscopic Observations of Convective Patterns in the Atmospheres of Metal-poor Stars
Convective line asymmetries in the optical spectrum of two metal-poor stars, Gmb 1830 and HD 140283, are compared to those observed for solar metallicity stars. The line bisectors of the most metal-poor star, the subgiant HD 140283, show a significantly larger velocity span that the expectations for a solar-metallicity star of the same spectral

  • Results of Observational Campaigns Carried Out During the Impact of Lunar Prospector into a Permanently Shadowed Crater near the South Pole of the Moon
On July 31, 1999 the Lunar Prospector (LP) spacecraft was commanded to deorbit and thus impact into the floor of a permanently shadowed crater at -88.7S, 42E (Goldstein, et al. 1999, GRL 26, pp1653-1656 and paper 38.06 at this conference). Coordinated observational program (spectroscopy and imaging) were carried out at HST, SWAS, Keck, McDonald
