  • Meteor Outbursts - Amateur Visual Observations are more valuable than ever
1998 was one of the most exciting years ever for meteor observers. No less than three showers (the Pons-Winneckids, the Giacobinids and the Leonids) gave significant outbursts. In recent years important outbursts have also been detected from the Perseids, leading indirectly to the recovery of the lost Comet Swift-Tuttle and from the November

  • Kinematics of Gas and Stars in Early-type Disk Galaxies
We present a comparison between ionized gas and stellar kinematics for a sample of 5 early-to-intermediate disk galaxies. We measured the major axis V and velocity dispersion radial profiles for both gas and stars, and the h_3 and h_4 radial profiles of the stars. We also derived from the R-band surface photometry of each galaxy the light

  • Imaging and Spectroscopic Survey of Northern Wolf-Rayet Galaxies
We are continuing a comprehensive systematic study of the properties of Wolf-Rayet (WR) galaxies based on data from ground and space observatories. In this proposal we request time on the KPNO 2.1m telescope to undertake CCD imagery and spectroscopy of a group of Northern WR galaxies. Our basic aim is threefold: identify and characterize the

  • Fundamental parameters of galactic luminous OB stars. III. Spectroscopic analysis of O stars in Cygnus OB2
We present the results of the spectral analysis of 11 OB stars in Cyg OB2, among them seven giants and supergiants. The projected rotational velocities of these stars are low or moderate. We find that only one of the stars (previously classified as luminosity class V) shows helium enhancement, and that this turns out to be compatible with standard
