  • Variability of NGC 5543: The continuum
Simultaneous UV and optical variations of NGC 5548 suggest a common origin of the continuum flux at both ranges. If the bulk of the UV flux had a black body like shape, its optical contribution would be too low to account for the observed variations, and a connection between UV and FIR changes would be needed, which is not observed. However, a flat

  • Temporal and center-to-limb variations of the K I 769.9 NM line profiles in quiet and active solar regions
The temporal and spatial behaviour of the K I 769.9 nm solar line are investigated using several series of high spectral resolution low-noise photoelectric scans obtained at Kitt Peak National Observatory in quiet and active (plages and sunspots) regions. Corrections due to the instrumental profile were applied to yield the best line shape. A

  • Near-infrared observations of GGD objects
The authors present the results of a near-infrared survey of 13 areas containing 16 GGD objects. A total of 12 infrared sources have been detected in five of the surveyed fields; six of them are new detections. An IRAS point source is present in all the areas where the authors have positive detections. The infrared colours J-H, H-K and K-L indicate

  • Multi-level non-LTE calculations for very optically thick winds and photospheres under extreme NLTE conditions
A new technique to calculate multilevel non-LTE continuum formation in the UV of stellar winds and plane-parallel, static stellar atmospheres is developed using a local approximate lambda operator similar to those presented by Werner and Husfeld (1985) and Hamann (1986). In the present formulation, the iteration of the transfer equation solution is

  • IRSPEC spectra reduced within MIDAS.
The ESO 32-channel infrared (1 -5 micron-meter) grating spectrometer, IRSPEC, was put into operation and made available for Visiting Astronomers in October 1986. In this contribution we describe the reduction scheme implemented in MIDAS to process IRSPEC data taken in any of the two - discrete or Continuous - instrumental modes. The Ins~rument
