  • Infrared astronomy: Why and how?
The prospects for spaceborne infrared astronomy are considered. Studies of the cosmic background radiation, investigations of the physics of the interstellar medium and of external galaxies, and ionic line detection are proposed. Technological developments such as heterodyne techniques are discussed.

  • The ultraviolet spectrum of Beta Ori, B8 IA
A Copernicus spectrum of the early-type supergiant Beta Ori, extending from 1010 to 1440 A with 0.2-A resolution and from 1710 to 3215 A with 0.4-A resolution, is described. Some 1137 absorption lines are identified, and equivalent widths and profiles are computed for selected features. It is found that: (1) the Ly-alpha line is the major feature

  • Zodiacal light photopolarimetry. III - All-sky survey from Teide 1964-1975 with emphasis on off-ecliptic features
Photopolarimetric observations of the zodiacal light over a complete solar cycle are used to study the average distribution of brightness and degree of polarization over the entire sky. It is found that the brightness ratio between the helioecliptic meridian (the line connecting the solar and antisolar points) and the ecliptic is independent of
