  • MASCARA and bRing, finding bright transiting planets and synergies with TESS
In this talk, I will discuss the current state of the MASCARA and bRing networks, and go into detail on how our observations can be combined with TESS to search for long period transiting exoplanets. These networks have discovered four exciting transiting exoplanets which are ideal for follow up atmospheric characterization surveys. The near

  • Magnetic Sensitivity in the Wing Scattering Polarization Signals of the Hydrogen Lyman-α Line of the Solar Disk Radiation
The linear polarization produced by scattering processes in the hydrogen Lyα line of the solar disk radiation is a key observable for probing the chromosphere–corona transition region (TR) and the underlying chromospheric plasma. While the line-center signal encodes information on the magnetic field and the three-dimensional structure of the TR

  • Greening of the brown-dwarf desert. EPIC 212036875b: a 51 MJ object in a 5-day orbit around an F7 V star
Context. Although more than 2000 brown dwarfs have been detected to date, mainly from direct imaging, their characterisation is difficult due to their faintness and model-dependent results. In the case of transiting brown dwarfs, however, it is possible to make direct high-precision observations. Aims: Our aim is to investigate the nature and

  • Fundamentals of horn antennas with low cross-polarization levels for radioastronomy and satellite communications
The literature on horn antennas dedicated to radio astronomy and satellite communications applications is very extensive and at times disjointed, relevant contributions being distributed as far back as from the 60's until the present today. This work combines a compact but complete review of the different theories, methodologies and techniques used

  • Formation of ultra-diffuse galaxies in the field and in galaxy groups
We study ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in zoom in cosmological simulations, seeking the origin of UDGs in the field versus galaxy groups. We find that while field UDGs arise from dwarfs in a characteristic mass range by multiple episodes of supernova feedback (Di Cintio et al.), group UDGs may also form by tidal puffing up and they become quiescent
