  • Standing sausage waves in photospheric magnetic waveguides
Aims: By focussing on the oscillations of the cross-sectional area and the total intensity of magnetic waveguides located in the lower solar atmosphere, we aim to detect and identify magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) sausage waves. Methods: Capturing several high-resolution time series of magnetic waveguides and employing a wavelet analysis, in conjunction

  • Sonochemical Synthesis of Fullerene C60/ Anthracene Diels-Alder Mono and Bisadducts
The sonication of a mixture of C60 fullerene and anthracene in benzene yields the trans-1 bis-adduct C60(anthracene)2 in 52% yield. The bis-adduct is accompanied by the monoadduct C60(anthracene) in 26% yield. The reaction products of the sonochemical synthesis were identified by FT-IR and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The composition of

  • Single Rotating Stars and the Formation of Bipolar Planetary Nebula
We have computed new stellar evolution models that include the effects of rotation and magnetic torques under different hypotheses. The goal is to test whether a single star can sustain the rotational velocities needed in the envelope for magnetohydrodynamical(MHD) simulations to shape bipolar planetary nebulae (PNe) when high mass-loss rates take

  • Search for very high energy gamma-rays from the z = 0.896 quasar 4C +55.17 with the MAGIC telescopes
The bright gamma-ray quasar 4C +55.17 is a distant source (z = 0.896) with a hard spectrum at GeV energies as observed by the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on board the Fermi satellite. This source is identified as a good source candidate for very high energy (VHE; >30 GeV) gamma-rays. In general, VHE gamma-rays from distant sources provide a unique

  • Rapid and multiband variability of the TeV bright active nucleus of the galaxy IC 310
Context. The radio galaxy IC 310 has recently been identified as a γ-ray emitter based on observations at GeV energies with Fermi-LAT and at very high energies (VHE, E > 100 GeV) with the MAGIC telescopes. Originally classified as a head-tail radio galaxy, the nature of this object is subject of controversy since its nucleus shows blazar-like

  • Photometric Decomposition of Mergers in Disk Galaxies
Several observational studies and numerical simulations suggest that mergers must contribute to the evolution of galaxies; however, the role that they play is not yet fully understood. In this paper we study a sample of 52 double nucleus disk galaxies that are considered as candidates for a minor merger event. The luminosity of each of the nuclei
