  • Discovery of very high energy gamma-ray emission from the blazar 1ES 1727+502 with the MAGIC Telescopes
Motivated by the prediction of a high TeV luminosity we investigated whether the blazar 1ES 1727+502 (z = 0.055) is emitting very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) γ rays. We observed the BL Lac object 1ES 1727+502 in stereoscopic mode with the two MAGIC telescopes for 14 nights between May 6th and June 10th 2011, for a total effective observing time

  • Age and metallicity gradients support hierarchical formation for M87
In order to probe the inside-out formation of the most massive galaxies in the Universe, we have explored the radial (0.1 ≲ R ≲ 8 kpc) variation of the spectral energy distribution of M87 from UV to IR. For this purpose, we have combined high-resolution data in 16 different bands. Our analysis indicate that the age of the stellar population of M87

  • A search for photometric variability towards M71 with the Near-Infrared Transiting ExoplanetS Telescope
We present the results of a high-cadence photometric survey of an 11 arcmin × 11 arcmin field centred on the globular cluster M71, with the Near-Infrared Transiting ExoplanetS Telescope. The aim of our survey is to search for stellar variability and giant transiting exoplanets. This survey differs from previous photometric surveys of M71 in that it

  • A search for magnetic fields on central stars in planetary nebulae
Context. One of the possible mechanisms responsible for the panoply of shapes in planetary nebulae is the presence of magnetic fields that drive the ejection of ionized material during the proto-planetary nebula phase. Aims: Therefore, detecting magnetic fields in such objects is of key importance for understanding their dynamics. Still, magnetic

  • A meta-analysis of the magnetic line broadening in the solar atmosphere
A multiline Bayesian analysis of the Zeeman broadening in the solar atmosphere is presented. A hierarchical probabilistic model, based on the simple but realistic Milne-Eddington approximation to the solution of the radiative transfer equation is used to explain the data in the optical and near infrared. Our method makes use of the full line

  • A characteristic oxygen abundance gradient in galaxy disks unveiled with CALIFA
We present the largest and most homogeneous catalog of H ii regions and associations compiled so far. The catalog comprises more than 7000 ionized regions, extracted from 306 galaxies observed by the CALIFA survey. We describe the procedures used to detect, select, and analyze the spectroscopic properties of these ionized regions. In the current
