  • Do Neutron stars Or Black Holes Dominate The X-ray Binary Population Of The Youngest Starburst Galaxies?
We report on our year-long (2009-'10) campaign with the Chandra X-ray observatory, to capture the transient X-ray binary (XRB) population in the nearby starburst galaxy IC10 in Cassiopeia. Together with archival data, the study includes 225 ksec of Chandra exposure for a limiting luminosity depth of logLX>35 sensitive to high-mass XRBs containing

  • Discovery of a Multiply Lensed Submillimeter Galaxy in Early HerMES Herschel/SPIRE Data
We report the discovery of a bright (f(250 μm)>400 mJy), multiply lensed submillimeter galaxy HERMES J105751.1+573027 in Herschel/SPIRE Science Demonstration Phase data from the HerMES project. Interferometric 880 μm Submillimeter Array observations resolve at least four images with a large separation of ~9''. A high-resolution adaptive optics Kp

  • Discovery of 1 Hz quasi-periodic oscillations in an RXTE observation of MAXI J1543-564
We report on an RXTE follow-up observation of the ongoing outburst of the newly discovered transient X-ray source MAXI J1543-564 (ATELs #3330 and #3331). At ~2:08 UT on May 10th, 2011, RXTE observed MAXI J1543-564 for about 800 seconds (only PCU2 was active). The 2-60 keV power spectrum of this observation exhibits only a single ~10 sigma quasi

  • Deep Impact, Stardust-NExT and the behavior of Comet 9P/Tempel 1 from 1997 to 2010
We present observational data for Comet 9P/Tempel 1 taken from 1997 through 2010 in an international collaboration in support of the Deep Impact and Stardust-NExT missions. The data were obtained to characterize the nucleus prior to the Deep Impact 2005 encounter, and to enable us to understand the rotation state in order to make a time of arrival

  • Constraining the Properties of Delta Scuti Stars Using Spectroscopic Eclipsing Binary Systems
Many stars exhibit stellar pulsations, favoring them for asteroseismic analyses. Interpreting the oscillations requires some knowledge of the oscillation mode geometry (spherical degree, radial, and azimuthal orders). The δ Scuti stars (1.5-2.5 M sun) often show just one or few pulsation frequencies. Although this may promise a successful

  • Compact radio emission in Ultraluminous X-ray sources
We present results from our studies of radio emission from selected Ultraluminous X-ray (ULX) sources, using archival Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) data and new European VLBI Network (EVN) observations. The GMRT data are used to find possible faint radio emission from ULX sources located in late-type galaxies in the Chandra Deep Fields. No
