  • A common explanation of the Hubble tension and anomalous cold spots in the CMB
The standard cosmological paradigm narrates a reassuring story of a universe currently dominated by an enigmatic dark energy component. Disquietingly, its universal explaining power has recently been challenged by, above all, the ∼4σ tension in the values of the Hubble constant. Another, less studied anomaly is the repeated observation of

  • X-ray spectral and timing evolution of MAXI J1727-203 with NICER
We present a detailed X-ray spectral and variability study of the full 2018 outburst of MAXI J1727-203 using NICER observations. The outburst lasted approximately four months. Spectral modelling in the 0.3-10 keV band shows the presence of both a soft thermal and a hard Comptonised component. The analysis of these components shows that MAXI J1727

  • White Dwarfs in Close Binaries: A Systematic Search for Mass-transfer Systems and Supernova Ia Progenitors in the APOGEE Survey
We have created a new and unique database, the APOGEE-Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX)-Gaia catalog, to study white dwarfs in close binaries, and, in particular, to: (1) create a minimally biased sample of white dwarf-main sequence (WDMS) systems derived from the combination of GALEX, Gaia, and the dual hemisphere, multi-epoch, high-resolution

  • Two close binaries across the hydrogen-burning limit in the Praesepe open cluster
We present Keck I/OSIRIS and Keck II/NIRC2 adaptive optics imaging of two member candidates of the Praesepe stellar cluster (d = 186.18 ± 0.11 pc; 590-790 Myr), UGCS J08451066+2148171 (L1.5 ± 0.5) and UGCS J08301935+2003293 (no spectroscopic classification). We resolved UGCS J08451066+2148171 into a binary system in the near-infrared, with a K-band

  • The TOI-763 system: sub-Neptunes orbiting a Sun-like star
We report the discovery of a planetary system orbiting TOI-763(aka CD-39 7945), a V = 10.2, high proper motion G-type dwarf star that was photometrically monitored by the TESS space mission in Sector 10. We obtain and model the stellar spectrum and find an object slightly smaller than the Sun, and somewhat older, but with a similar metallicity. Two

  • The Sixth Data Release of the Radial Velocity Experiment (RAVE). II. Stellar Atmospheric Parameters, Chemical Abundances, and Distances
We present part 2 of the sixth and final Data Release (DR6) of the Radial Velocity Experiment (RAVE), a magnitude-limited ( $9\lt I\lt 12$ ) spectroscopic survey of Galactic stars randomly selected in Earth's southern hemisphere. The RAVE medium-resolution spectra (R ∼ 7500) cover the Ca triplet region (8410-8795 Å) and span the complete time frame
