  • Soft X-ray emission lines in the X-ray binary Swift J1858.6-0814 observed with XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometer: disc atmosphere or wind?
We find soft X-ray emission lines from the X-ray binary Swift J1858.6-0814 in data from XMM-NewtonReflection Grating Spectrometer (RGS): N VII, O VII, and O VIII, as well as notable residuals short of a detection at Ne IX and other higher ionization transitions. These could be associated with the disc atmosphere, as in accretion disc corona sources

  • SMASHing the low surface brightness SMC
The periphery of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) can unlock important information regarding galaxy formation and evolution in interacting systems. Here, we present a detailed study of the extended stellar structure of the SMC using deep colour-magnitude diagrams, obtained as part of the Survey of the MAgellanic Stellar History (SMASH). Special

  • Simulations Predicting the Ability of Multi-color Simultaneous Photometry to Distinguish TESS Candidate Exoplanets from False Positives
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is currently concluding its 2 yr primary science mission searching 85% of the sky for transiting exoplanets. TESS has already discovered well over one thousand TESS objects of interest (TOIs), but these candidate exoplanets must be distinguished from astrophysical false positives using other

  • Search for the sub-stellar lithium depletion boundary in the open star cluster Coma Berenices
Aims: We mainly aim to search for the lithium depletion boundary (LDB) among the sub-stellar population of the open star cluster Coma Berenices. Methods: Since the number of brown dwarf candidates in Coma Ber available in the literature is scarce, we carried out a search for additional candidates photometrically using colour-magnitude diagrams

  • Rotation of Solar Analogs Crossmatching Kepler and Gaia DR2
A major obstacle to interpreting the rotation period distribution for main-sequence stars from Kepler mission data has been the lack of a precise evolutionary status for these objects. We address this by investigating the evolutionary status based on Gaia Data Release 2 parallaxes and photometry for more than 30,000 Kepler stars with rotation

  • Quantifying the evidence for resonant damping of coronal waves with foot-point wave power asymmetry
We use Coronal Multi-channel Polarimeter (CoMP) observations of propagating waves in the solar corona together with Bayesian analysis to assess the evidence of models with resonant damping and foot-point wave power asymmetries. We considered two nested models: a reduced and a larger model. The reduced model considers resonant damping as the sole
