  • Mapping the core of the Tarantula Nebula with VLT-MUSE. I. Spectral and nebular content around R136
We introduce VLT-MUSE observations of the central 2'× 2' (30 × 30 pc) of the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The observations provide an unprecedented spectroscopic census of the massive stars and ionised gas in the vicinity of R136, the young, dense star cluster located in NGC 2070, at the heart of the richest star-forming region

  • Magnesium isotopes: a tool to understand self-enrichment in globular clusters
A critical issue in the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) self-enrichment scenario for the formation of multiple populations in globular clusters (GCs) is the inability to reproduce the magnesium isotopic ratios, despite the model in principle can account for the depletion of magnesium. In this work, we analyse how the uncertainties on the various p

  • Local anticorrelation between star formation rate and gas-phase metallicity in disc galaxies
Using a representative sample of 14 star-forming dwarf galaxies in the local Universe, we show the existence of a spaxel-to-spaxel anticorrelation between the index N2 ≡ log ([N II]λ 6583/H α ) and the H α flux. These two quantities are commonly employed as proxies for gas-phase metallicity and star formation rate (SFR), respectively. Thus, the

  • K2 Photometry of RR Lyrae Stars
Thousands of RR Lyrae stars have been observed by the Kepler space telescope so far. We developed a photometric pipeline tailored to the light variations of these stars, called the Extended Aperture Photometry (EAP). We present the comparison of our photometric solutions for Campaigns 0 through 6 with the other pipelines available, e.g., SAP/PDCSAP

  • Inversions of synthetic umbral flashes: Effects of scanning time on the inferred atmospheres
Context. The use of instruments that record narrowband images at selected wavelengths is a common approach in solar observations. They allow scanning of a spectral line by sampling the Stokes profiles with two-dimensional images at each line position, but require a compromise between spectral resolution and temporal cadence. The interpretation and

  • Identifying two groups of massive stars aligned in the l 38° Galactic direction
Context. Recent near-infrared data have contributed to unveiling massive and obscured stellar populations in both new and previously known clusters in our Galaxy. These discoveries have lead us to view the Milky Way as an active star-forming machine. Aims: We look for young massive cluster candidates as over-densities of OB-type stars. The first
