I am a La Caixa Junior Leader Fellow working on evolved binary systems, particularly the post-interaction progeny of Asymptotic Giant Branch binaries. Most of my work concerns chemically peculiar stars that show an enhancement of typical AGB elements in their atmospheres, indicating they have accreted mass from a companion. I focus on the stellar and orbital properties of these stars and their companions with the goal of better understanding their formation and evolution and learning about low- and intermediate-mass binaries in general.
Before obtaining this Junior Leader Fellowship, I spent three years in Chile as a European Southern Observatory (ESO) Fellow. My time there was split 50-50 between science and duties at ESO's Paranal observatory, where I served as a support astronomer and operated two of the VLT telescopes (UT1 and UT2) and their six instruments (ESPRESSO, FLAMES, FORS2, KMOS, UVES, and VISIR). Additionally, I was part of the Instrument Teams of UVES and ESPRESSO as the Instrument Fellow.
I obtained my PhD in Belgium in 2020 as part of a dual programme between the KU Leuven and the Université Libre de Bruxelles.
