  • The ultraviolet to far-infrared spectral energy distribution of star-forming galaxies in the redshift desert
We analyse the rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (near-IR) spectral energy distribution (SED) of Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs), star-forming (SF) BzK (sBzK) and UV-selected galaxies at 1.5 ≲ z ≲ 2.5 in the COSMOS, GOODS-N and GOODS-S fields. Additionally, we complement the multiwavelength coverage of the galaxies located in the GOODS

  • The star formation history of CALIFA galaxies: Radial structures
We have studied the radial structure of the stellar mass surface density (μ∗) and stellar population age as a function of the total stellar mass and morphology for a sample of 107 galaxies from the CALIFA survey. We applied the fossil record method based on spectral synthesis techniques to recover the star formation history (SFH), resolved in space

  • The SDSS-III Baryonic Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: constraints on the integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect
In the context of the study of the integrated Sachs-Wolfe (ISW) effect, we construct a template of the projected density distribution up to redshift z ≃ 0.7 by using the luminous galaxies (LGs) from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 8 (DR8). We use a photometric redshift catalogue trained with more than a hundred thousand galaxies

  • The post-common-envelope, binary central star of the planetary nebula Hen 2-11
We present a detailed photometric study of the central star system of the planetary nebula Hen 2-11, selected for study because of its low-ionisation filaments and bipolar morphology - traits which have been strongly linked with central star binarity. Photometric monitoring with NTT-EFOSC2 reveals a highly irradiated, double-eclipsing, post-common

  • The occurrence of non-pulsating stars in the γ Dor and δ Sct instability regions
We examine the light curves of over 2700 stars observed in long cadence by the Kepler spacecraft as part of the Guest Observer program. Most of these stars are faint (Kepler magnitude > 14), and fall near or within the effective temperature and log g range of the γ Dor and δ Sct instability strips. We find that the pulsating stars are obvious from

  • The neutron star transient and millisecond pulsar in M28: from sub-luminous accretion to rotation-powered quiescence
The X-ray transient IGR J18245-2452 in the globular cluster M28 contains the first neutron star (NS) seen to switch between rotation-powered and accretion-powered pulsations. We analyse its 2013 March-April 25 d long outburst as observed by Swift, which had a peak bolometric luminosity of ˜6 per cent of the Eddington limit (LEdd), and give detailed
