  • Redshift Determination and CO Line Excitation Modeling for the Multiply Lensed Galaxy HLSW-01
We report on the redshift measurement and CO line excitation of HERMES J105751.1+573027 (HLSW-01), a strongly lensed submillimeter galaxy discovered in Herschel/SPIRE observations as part of the Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey (HerMES). HLSW-01 is an ultra-luminous galaxy with an intrinsic far-infrared luminosity of L FIR = 1.4 × 1013 L

  • Rebrightening of MAXI J0556-332
We report a rebrightening of the newly discovered transient MAXI J0556-332 (ATEL #3102, #3103, #3104, #3106, #3110, #3112, #3116, #3119) in optical through soft-X-ray wavelengths. The source is being monitored regularly in the I-band using the SMARTS 1.3m telescope in CTIO, and the I-band light curve has been showing a monotonically increasing

  • Radial velocities in two globular clusters (Scarpa+, 2011)
Spectroscopic observations were obtained with FLAMES+GIRAFFE at the ESO 8-meter VLT telescope. FLAMES is a fiber multi-object spectrograph, allowing the simultaneous observation of up to 130 objects. For each configuration five separate 3200s exposures were obtained on different night from November 2007 to March 2008. (2 data files).

  • Predicting the Detectability of Oscillations in Solar-type Stars Observed by Kepler
Asteroseismology of solar-type stars has an important part to play in the exoplanet program of the NASA Kepler Mission. Precise and accurate inferences on the stellar properties that are made possible by the seismic data allow very tight constraints to be placed on the exoplanetary systems. Here, we outline how to make an estimate of the

  • Optical variability of the ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 1313 X-2
We analyzed the longest phase-connected photometric dataset available for NGC 1313 X-2, looking for the ˜6 day modulation reported by Liu et al. (2009). The folded B-band light curve shows a 6 days periodicity with a significance slightly larger than 3σ. The low statistical significance of this modulation, along with the lack of detection in the V
