  • Surface Heterogeneity, Physical, and Shape Model of Near-Earth Asteroid (52768) 1998 OR2
On 2020 April 29, the near-Earth object (52768) 1998 OR2 experienced a close approach to Earth at a distance of 16.4 lunar distances (LD). 1998 OR2 is a potentially hazardous asteroid of absolute magnitude H = 16.04 that can currently come as close to Earth as 3.4 LD. We report here observations of this object in polarimetry, photometry, and radar

  • Sulfur dioxide in the mid-infrared transmission spectrum of WASP-39b
The recent inference of sulfur dioxide (SO 2) in the atmosphere of the hot (approximately 1,100 K), Saturn-mass exoplanet WASP-39b from near-infrared JWST observations 1-3 suggests that photochemistry is a key process in high-temperature exoplanet atmospheres 4. This is because of the low (<1 ppb) abundance of SO 2 under thermochemical equilibrium

  • Strong size evolution of disc galaxies since z = 1. Readdressing galaxy growth using a physically motivated size indicator
Our understanding of how the size of galaxies has evolved over cosmic time is based on the use of the half-light (effective) radius as a size indicator. Although the half-light radius has many advantages for structurally parameterising galaxies, it does not provide a measure of the global extent of the objects, but only an indication of the size of

  • Spectroscopic identification of rapidly rotating red giant stars in APOKASC-3 and APOGEE DR16
Rotationally enhanced red giant stars are astrophysically interesting but rare. In this paper, we present a catalogue of 3217 active red giant candidates in the APOGEE DR16 (Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment - Data Release 16) survey. We use a control sample in the well-studied Kepler fields to demonstrate a strong relationship

  • Simultaneous multicolour transit photometry of hot Jupiters HAT-P-19b, HAT-P-51b, HAT-P-55b, and HAT-P-65b
Accurate physical parameters of exoplanet systems are essential for further exploration of planetary internal structure, atmospheres, and formation history. We aim to use simultaneous multicolour transit photometry to improve the estimation of transit parameters, to search for transit timing variations (TTVs), and to establish which of our targets

  • Revealing the kinematic puzzle of the AGN host NGC 3884: optical integral field spectroscopy unravels stellar and gas motions
We used optical integral field spectroscopy to analyse the stellar and gas properties of the inner 1.4 kpc radius of NGC 3884, a low-luminosity active galactic nucleus (AGN) host. The observations were performed with Gemini Multi-Object Spectrograph (GMOS)-Integral Field Unit at a seeing of ~0.85 arcsec (475 pc at the galaxy) that allowed us to map
