  • The Internal Dynamics of A115 Nearby Cluster of Galaxies
Based on optical data we propose a dynamycal model for A115. From spatial and radial velocity distributions we find three massive subsclusters that configure a pre-merging scenario. On this basis, we discuss on the origin of the radio emission and its correlation with X-rays.

  • The Integral Field Unit of the Near Infrared Spectrophaph for JWST
The Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) on board of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be equipped with an Integral Field Unit (IFU) which will allow the two-dimensional spectral characterization of astronomical objects with unprecedented depths, especially in the 2-5 micron wavelength range. In particular, NIRSpec-IFU observations of high

  • The Herschel-SPIRE instrument and its capabilities for extragalactic astronomy
SPIRE, the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver, is one of three instruments to fly on the European Space Agency's Herschel Space Observatory. It contains a three-band imaging photometer operating at 250, 350 and 500 μm, and an imaging Fourier transform spectrometer covering 194-672 μm. The SPIRE detectors are arrays of feedhorn-coupled

  • The Distribution of Bar Strengths in Disk Galaxies
The distribution of bar strengths in disk galaxies is of fundamental importance in studies of galaxy evolution for two reasons. First, bars are the most important morphological features of galaxies that cross the spiral-S0 divide. They are a potentially fruitful way of comparing these two classes of disk galaxies and perhaps for better
