  • The central bulges of galaxies at 0.3 < z < 1.0
We have studied the colors of the bulge component of 133 galaxies from the HST Groth Strip Survey (Groth et al. 1994), covering redshifts 0.3 z 1.0. We selected all objects apparent radii R > 1.4'', and inclination above 50 degrees in order to avoid reddening from dust in the disk on one side of the bulges. We find that, as in the Local Universe

  • The "K-Correction" for Irradiated Emission Lines in LMXBs: Evidence for a Massive Neutron Star in X1822-371 (V691 CrA)
We study the K-correction for the case of emission lines formed in the X-ray-illuminated atmosphere of a Roche lobe-filling star. We compute the K-correction as a function of the mass ratio q and the disk flaring angle α using a compact binary code in which the companion's Roche lobe is divided into 105 resolution elements. We also study the effect

  • Testing the Optics of the instrument Elmer
Elmer is a visible imager and spectrograph for the GTC. Elmer Optics has been exhaustively tested at different steps, from the blanks to the final assemblies in order to guarantee the fulfillment with the required performance. In this contribution, we describe the tests done to the different optical components until now. Blank testing, WFE Image

  • Surface density of extremely red objects with R - J ≥ 5
We present the results of a wide-field survey for extremely red objects (EROs), based on J and R band imaging. The survey covers 2.89 deg2, consisting of 50 single fields, each approximately 210 arcmin2 in size. This survey provides a sample of 60 extended objects with a colour of R-J ≥ 5 and J band magnitudes more than 10σ above background (18^mag
