  • Parameters of massive stars in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies
We present in this contribution a review of recent results of parameters of massive OB stars in the Milky Way, the Magellanic Clouds and nearby spirals. The review is timely because of the strong lowering of the temperature scale of Galactic OB stars produced by the new model atmospheres, including sphericity, blanketing and mass-loss, that are

  • Optical novae: the major class of supersoft X-ray sources in M 31
We searched for X-ray counterparts of optical novae detected in M 31 and M 33. We combined an optical nova catalogue from the WeCAPP survey with optical novae reported in the literature and correlated them with the most recent X-ray catalogues from ROSAT, XMM-Newton, and Chandra, and in addition searched for nova correlations in archival data. We

  • New clues on outburst mechanisms and improved spectroscopic elements of the black hole binary V4641 Sagittarii*
We present spectroscopic observations of the black hole binary V4641 Sagittarii, obtained between 2004 July 4 and 2005 March 28, which cover the minor outburst of the star in early 2004 July and quiescence variations on 19 nights scattered over six months. During the outburst, the star peaked approximately 3 mag brighter than usual, and our spectra

  • Morphological studies of the Spitzer Wide-Area Infrared Extragalactic survey galaxy population in the UGC 10214 Hubble Space Telescope/Advanced Camera for Surveys field
We present the results of a morphological analysis of a small subset of the Spitzer Wide-Area Infrared Extragalactic survey (SWIRE) galaxy population. The analysis is based on public Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) data taken inside the SWIRE N1 field, which are the deepest optical high-resolution imaging available within the SWIRE fields as of
