  • Chemical Abundances of the Galactic H II Region NGC 3576 Derived from Very Large Telescope Echelle Spectrophotometry
We present echelle spectrophotometry of the Galactic H II region NGC 3576. The data have been taken with the VLT UVES echelle spectrograph in the 3100-10400 Å range. We have measured the intensities of 458 emission lines, 344 are permitted lines of H0, He0, C+, N0, N+, N++, O0, O+, Ne+, S++, Si0, Si+, Ar0, and Ar+; some of them are produced by

  • a Relief to the Supersymmetric Fine Tuning Problem
As is well known, electroweak breaking in the MSSM requires substantial fine-tuning. We explain why this fine tuning problem is abnormally acute, and this allows to envisage possible solutions to this undesirable situation. Following these ideas, we review some recent work which shows how in models with SUSY broken at a low scale (not far from the

  • Using Globular Clusters to Test Newton's Law of Gravity
New measurements of the velocity dispersion of the globular cluster ω Centauri allow us to trace its gravitational potential down to an acceleration of 8×10-9 cm s-2. It is found that the dispersion profile remains flat well inside the tidal radius as soon as the acceleration of gravity approaches a_0, a result that finds its simplest explanation
