  • Observations of the 2001 Leonid meteor storm from northern Australia with the Teide imaging meteor system
We describe the Teide Imaging MEteor System (TIMES), a fully automatic experiment consisting of two fixed image-intensified video cameras which are operated from Teide Observatory (Tenerife, Spain). A second station equipped with an identical system is located in Maspalomas (Gran Canaria, Spain). TIMES has been designed to work with the MetRec

  • New Light and Shadows on Stephan's Quintet
We present deep broadband R and narrowband Hα images of Stephan's Quintet. The observations in the R band show that the diffuse halo of Stephan's Quintet is larger than previously thought and extends out to NGC 7320C. However, we have not found emission connecting NGC 7331 and NGC 7320 to R~26.7 mag arcsec-2 (at more than a 3 σ level), so there is

  • Multiband observations of the comet C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) at its closest approach to the Earth
Comet C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) was observed at ESO when it had its closest approach to the Earth at the beginning of December 2001 (geocentric distance: 0.32 AU). The aim of the observations was the characterization of the solid component of the coma in order to better understand the origin and the correlation between most aspects of this component. The

  • Monitoring and physical characterization of Near Earth Objects
We describe an ongoing program dedicated to the observation and physical characterization of Near Earth Objects (NEOs) using night facilities of Observatorio del Teide (Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias, Tenerife, Spain). We are observing NEOs with the aim of doing recovery and follow-up astrometry, of studying their rotational properties using

  • High resolution velocity structure beneath Mount Vesuvius from seismic array data
A high resolution P-wave image of Mt. Vesuvius edifice has been derived from simultaneous inversion of travel times and hypocentral parameters of local earthquakes, land based shots and small aperture array data. The results give details down to 300-500 m. The relocated local seismicity appears to extend down to 5 km below the central crater
