  • The cosmic assembly of stellar haloes in massive early-type Galaxies
Using the exquisite depth of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF12 programme) data set, we explore the ongoing assembly of the outermost regions of the most massive galaxies (Mstellar ≥ 5× 1010 M⊙) at z ≤ 1. The outskirts of massive objects, particularly early-type Galaxies (ETGs), are expected to suffer a dramatic transformation across cosmic time

  • The Aurora radiation-hydrodynamical simulations of reionization: calibration and first results
We introduce a new suite of radiation-hydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation and reionization called Aurora. The Aurora simulations make use of a spatially adaptive radiative transfer technique that lets us accurately capture the small-scale structure in the gas at the resolution of the hydrodynamics, in cosmological volumes. In addition to

  • System mass constraints for the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1814-338 using Bowen fluorescence
We present phase-resolved spectroscopy of the millisecond X-ray pulsar XTE J1814-338 obtained during its 2003 outburst. The spectra are dominated by high-excitation emission lines of He II λ4686, Hβ, and the Bowen blend C III/N III 4630-50 Å. We exploit the proven Bowen fluorescence technique to establish a complete set of dynamical system

  • Synchrotron emission from the blazar PG 1553+113. An analysis of its flux and polarization variability
In 2015 July 29-September 1, the satellite XMM-Newton pointed at the BL Lac object PG 1553+133 six times, collecting data for 218 h. During one of these epochs, simultaneous observations by the Swift satellite were requested to compare the results of the X-ray and optical-UV instruments. Optical, near-infrared and radio monitoring was carried out

  • SWEET-Cat update and FASMA. A new minimization procedure for stellar parameters using high-quality spectra
Context. Thanks to the importance that the star-planet relation has to our understanding of the planet formation process, the precise determination of stellar parameters for the ever increasing number of discovered extrasolar planets is of great relevance. Furthermore, precise stellar parameters are needed to fully characterize the planet

  • Suppression and azimuthal anisotropy of prompt and nonprompt {J}/ψ production in PbPb collisions at √{{s_{_{ {NN}}}}} =2.76 TeV
The nuclear modification factor R_{AA} and the azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v2 of prompt and nonprompt (i.e. those from decays of b hadrons) {J}/ψ mesons, measured from PbPb and pp collisions at √{{s_{_{ {NN}}}}} =2.76 TeV at the LHC, are reported. The results are presented in several event centrality intervals and several kinematic regions
