  • Global Coronal Magnetic Field Estimation Using Bayesian Inference
    Estimating the magnetic field strength in the solar corona is crucial for understanding different physical processes happening over diverse spatiotemporal scales. However, the high temperatures and low density of the solar corona make this task challenging. The coronal magnetic field is too weak to produce a measurable splitting of the spectral

  • Galaxy archaeology - The quest for ancient mergers
    The hierarchical assembly of galaxies through mergers is a key channel of galaxy evolution in the ΛCDM cosmological model. Quantifying these ancient transformative accretion events from observations of present day galaxies is a crucial goal of extragalactic archeology. Achieving this goal is challenging as the dominant epoch of galaxy assembly lies

  • Galaxies Going Bananas: Inferring the 3D Geometry of High-redshift Galaxies with JWST-CEERS
    The 3D geometries of high-redshift galaxies remain poorly understood. We build a differentiable Bayesian model and use Hamiltonian Monte Carlo to efficiently and robustly infer the 3D shapes of star-forming galaxies in James Webb Space Telescope Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science observations with $\mathrm{log}{M}_{* }/{M}_{\odot }=9.0\mbox{--

  • Extremely Red Galaxies at z = 5–9 with MIRI and NIRSpec: Dusty Galaxies or Obscured Active Galactic Nuclei?
    We study a new population of extremely red objects (EROs) recently discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) based on their NIRCam colors F277W ‑ F444W > 1.5 mag. We find 37 EROs in the Cosmic Evolution Early Release Science Survey (CEERS) field with F444W < 28 mag and photometric redshifts between 5 < z < 7, with median $z={6.9}_{-1.6}^{

  • Examining the self-interaction of dark matter through central cluster galaxy offsets
    While collisionless cold dark matter models have been largely successful in explaining a wide range of observational data, some tensions still exist, and it remains possible that dark matter possesses a non-negligible level of self-interactions. In this paper, we investigate a possible observable consequence of self-interacting dark matter: offsets

  • Evidence for transit-timing variations of the 11 Myr exoplanet TOI-1227 b
    TOI-1227 b is an 11 Myr old validated transiting planet in the middle of its contraction phase, with a current radius of 0.85 R j. It orbits a low-mass pre-main sequence star (0.170 M ⊙, 0.56 R ⊙) every 27.4 days. The magnetic activity of its young host star induces radial velocity jitter and prevents good measurements of the planetary mass. We
